Fit an existing music track to your film with Audition Remix

Rearrange a recording to fit a fixed duration, listen through its new joins, and keep both the editable session and a finished WAV.

Your video lasts 45 seconds. The instrumental you want to use lasts two minutes, and its ending matters. That invented editing brief gives Audition Remix a concrete job: find a shorter arrangement that still sounds like a complete piece.

Adobe identifies Remix as a Sensei feature for changing music’s duration. This guide follows the documentation; no recording was processed or auditioned for it.[1]

Use an activated desktop installation and a recording you own or can edit. Adobe’s release notes list Audition 26.5, released in September 2026.[2]

Put the recording into a session

  1. Choose File → New → Multitrack Session. Name it and choose a folder. Set a stereo mix and a sample rate matching the recording; Audition prompts to resample files that differ from the session.
  2. Select an empty track, put the playhead at the start, then choose Multitrack → Insert Files and select the recording.

A SESX session stores references to media and the editing decisions, not the audio itself. Keep the recording in its chosen location so the session can find it when reopened.[3]

Find a musical route to the ending

Remix analyses beats and content to find transitions, then rearranges passages. Select the clip. Choose Clip → Remix → Enable Remix. In Properties, set Target Duration to 45 seconds for this example. Under Advanced, enable Stretch to exact duration if the timing must match precisely. That final adjustment time-stretches the rearranged clip.[4]

Listen against the picture for distracting repetition, early energy changes and broken musical pulse. Meeting the duration alone does not settle the arrangement.

For awkward joins, adjust Edit Length: Long favours longer passages with fewer transitions; Short allows more, shorter sections. Compare the alternatives. To return to the original clip, choose Clip → Remix → Revert Remix.[4]

Save the arrangement and the audio

Choose File → Save to retain the session. For a portable archive, use File → Export → Session and select Save Copies of Associated Files. A session saved alone still depends on its source media.[5]

With only the intended music in this session, choose File → Export → Multitrack Mixdown → Entire Session. Select WAV, a new filename and the sample rate and bit depth required by the video project. Export reflects the current mix settings.[5]

Open the WAV and check its duration, the first entrance and the final decay. Return to the session if the ending feels hurried. You now have a file to place in the film and an arrangement you can revise when the edit changes.
