Sales leaders expect to add people and ask more of each one next year. In a survey published by Boston Consulting Group on 19 October, 65% anticipated larger revenue teams, 72% bigger budgets, and 91% higher quotas or per-seller productivity requirements.[1]
The responses come from 398 revenue and commercial leaders at large companies across 23 countries. They describe plans for 2027, not jobs already created. BCG reports widespread AI use: 90% said it had a meaningful place in sales workflows.[1]
The reported gains so far lean towards administration. A third cited reduced administrative workloads; 13% identified better win rates as a top area of measurable AI impact. That last figure ranks a reported benefit; it does not count every company receiving any sales benefit.[1]
The ambition is to expand capacity. Less time recording a conversation or preparing an account file can leave more time for customers. But a larger target gives that saved time a new purpose. It asks the seller to turn additional capacity into additional business.
An earlier company-published account illustrates how that can change a job. In April, Salesforce described redeploying hundreds of support engineers while leaving some vacated roles unfilled. Its account follows Ankita Piludaria, who moved from Marketing Cloud support into renewals after initially feeling uncomfortable about the change.[2]
She had to learn the language of pricing and revenue targets. Her new team in India gave incoming engineers extended training and practice opportunities before a full workload. This was a change in what counted as a successful working day, not merely a new tool for the old assignment.[2]
Her technical experience then became useful in a different conversation. When a customer raised a product problem as a reason to stop renewing, she could help resolve it or direct it to the right team. Knowledge built through troubleshooting became a way to address a customer’s reason for leaving, according to Salesforce’s account.[2]
That example is one employer’s experience, separate from BCG’s survey. It makes the staffing question more concrete: which abilities will travel into the expanded role, and what must the person learn before being judged against its targets?
The value of her old job reappeared in the new one. The step between them was deliberate training. That is the work lying between a headcount plan and a team ready to live up to it.
