Digital Science buys Jenni AI and plans a link to Dimensions

The research-writing service will keep its existing subscriptions. Its new owner plans to connect it to a database whose searchable records and readable papers are different resources.

Digital Science announced its acquisition of Jenni AI on 29 October. It plans to connect the research-writing tool to Dimensions, starting with a database the company says contains 171 million publications.[1]

The integration is planned over the coming months. Jenni will remain a standalone product with the same team, prices and subscription plans, according to the announcement.[1]

Jenni lets users upload papers or import reference libraries, explore sources, draft and check citations. The deal brings that writing interface into the company supplying the research database.[1]

What the database connection can provide

Dimensions' documentation describes records assembled from sources including Crossref, PubMed, Europe PubMed Central, arXiv and direct publisher relationships. Where possible, it indexes an article's full text to extract references, affiliations and funding information, connecting the publication with other research records.[2]

Full-data search covers available metadata and, for roughly 70% of publications, text indexed in the background. That text may be searchable even when it is unavailable to read within Dimensions.[3]

A paper can appear because a search term occurs in its body, while the visible record omits that term. Finding the record and obtaining a readable copy remain separate steps.[3]

The acquisition announcement promises to bring Dimensions data and full-text search into Jenni. The 171-million-publication figure describes the database's reach; it should not be read as a promise of full-paper access for every subscriber.[1][3]
