Freshworks tops $1bn ARR as its largest customer accounts grow fastest

Freshworks passed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue after quarter-end. Its third-quarter revenue rose 14% to $245.4 million, while the number of customers contributing over $100,000 in ARR grew 25%.

Freshworks passed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue after the end of September, extending a shift towards larger customers for its customer-service and employee-service software. The company announced the milestone on November 3 alongside third-quarter revenue of $245.4 million, up from $215.1 million a year earlier. Its largest customer cohort grew much faster than the wider base, while both operating and net income turned positive compared with the year-earlier quarter.[1]

The two revenue measures describe different periods. Freshworks defines ARR as subscription, software-licence and maintenance revenue it contractually expects over the following 12 months, assuming no changes or cancellations; licences enter the measure on delivery. Recognised revenue records sales under accounting rules during a completed period. Passing $1 billion in ARR therefore does not mean the company has already earned that amount in a year, and the measure includes its broader software business rather than AI products alone.[1]

Larger accounts lead the expansion

Quarterly revenue grew by approximately $30.3 million, or 14.1% using the disclosed $245.428 million and $215.118 million totals. Freshworks reported 1,821 customers contributing more than $100,000 in ARR, up 25% from a year earlier. Its cohort above $50,000 rose 18% to 4,257 customers, while the cohort above $5,000 grew 5% to 25,498. These are overlapping thresholds, not three disjoint customer groups that should be added together. Their different growth rates support the company's account of a move toward larger and more complex deployments.[1]

Net dollar retention was 104%, compared with 105% a year earlier and 104% in the preceding quarter. On the company’s definition, the existing customer cohort expanded modestly after upgrades, downgrades and departures. The measure includes expansion associated with acquisitions, so it is not a clean measure of organic growth or AI adoption. Alongside the faster-growing large-account cohorts, it suggests that winning and expanding substantial deployments remains central to the company’s growth.[1]

Profitability and the AI adoption evidence

GAAP net income reached $18.3 million, reversing a year-earlier net loss of approximately $4.7 million. GAAP operating income was $28.2 million, against a prior operating loss of about $7.5 million. Adjusted free cash flow rose 29% to $73.9 million, while the non-GAAP operating margin reached 29.8%. The release reconciles the adjusted measures with their GAAP counterparts; the cash-flow and margin figures should be read using those definitions.[1]

The previous quarter provides useful context. In August, Freshworks reported $237.4 million in quarterly revenue and $3.2 million in GAAP net income, so the latest results extend an existing improvement. That release also offered a concrete AI adoption measure: the company said Freddy AI Copilot was attached to more than 71% of new enterprise deals. An attach rate measures inclusion in deals, rather than the revenue or profit attributable to the AI component. The third-quarter accounts do not provide that separate financial breakdown.[1][2]

Guidance points to further growth

Freshworks guided to $253.5 million–$254.5 million of fourth-quarter revenue and $965 million–$966 million for the full year. It recognised about $711.4 million in the first nine months; adding the fourth-quarter range reconciles to the annual guidance after rounding. These forecasts are compatible with the higher ARR figure because revenue recognition and the forward-looking contract measure use different time periods.[1]

The combination of faster growth in large accounts and improved profitability gives investors a more concrete picture than a general claim of rising enterprise AI demand. The next useful comparison is whether those customers keep expanding as AI adoption spreads, and whether Freshworks discloses the associated revenue and serving costs. That would connect its product-adoption evidence to the economics now visible in the accounts.[1]
