Use Lookout’s Find mode to locate a cup by sound

Choose Cups, move the phone slowly and listen for object and direction cues in Google’s accessibility app for Android.

Lookout uses a phone’s camera to identify objects for people who are blind or have low vision. Its Find mode offers a defined object list, including cups, bottles and doors.[1]

This is a documentation-based walkthrough, checked on 20 October 2026. We have not tested the app. For a first practice, use an empty cup on a table while sitting still.

  1. On Android 6.0 or later, install Lookout from Google Play. Open it, complete the welcome screens, allow camera access and select your Google account.
  2. At the top left, open Select mode and choose Find. At the top right, open Choose item and select Cups.
  3. Hold the phone with its camera facing outwards. Move it slowly and listen for the object announcements.
  4. Use the spoken direction and distance guidance where available; Google says most phones support it. Locate the cup, then use the camera on/off button to stop.

With TalkBack, select each control and double-tap to activate it.[1]
