Who keeps what from Greer’s three-store AI trial

The six-month ARIA beta will give Alpha Modus a grocery test bed. The announced agreement separates the retailer’s data from the supplier’s developing platform.

Alpha Modus announced on 15 October that Greer’s Markets would test its ARIA platform for six months in three Alabama grocery stores. Any expansion to a network anticipated at up to 29 stores follows evaluation.[1]

The planned system connects existing records, including camera data, transactions, inventory and waste information, to identify operating patterns and recommend improvements. The company intends to work with the retailer’s existing technology where possible.[1]

The ownership split matters. Alpha Modus says Greer’s keeps its proprietary operating data, while the supplier retains ARIA’s technology, models, knowledge base, deployment methods and improvements developed during the programme.[1]

The supplier also plans to refine grocery models, onboarding procedures and commercial pricing. The trial therefore has two outputs to develop: useful recommendations for these stores and a more repeatable product for future customers. Ownership of the source records and ownership of the improved system are separate questions.[1]
