Hex raises US$100m as it rebuilds analytics around agent-written code

The private beta makes figures traceable to their code and data, alongside a new engine for running interactive applications.

Hex has closed a US$100 million financing round and introduced a rewritten analytics platform built around AI agents. The company announced the funding and Hex 4.0 on 27 October.[1]

Peak XV and 137 Ventures led the round at a US$1.2 billion valuation, with investors including a16z, Redpoint and Sequoia participating. Chief executive Barry McCardel said the money would help expand the team and its sales effort.[1]

McCardel described limitations in the previous architecture: its agent software needed hundreds of special-purpose tools, external agents had a constrained connection through the Model Context Protocol, and the computing engine was poorly suited to fast, concurrent agent work.[1]

The rewrite stores project logic and visualisations in code files instead of a proprietary YAML specification. External agents can create or edit apps through Hex’s MCP server, including turning a Claude artifact into a shared application.[2]

For data teams, the corresponding change is an inspection interface. A number displayed in an app can be traced back to its logic and data sources, helping reviewers see whether it rests on an established data model or more complicated custom calculations.[2]

The new engine runs independent queries in parallel, displays results as they become ready and reruns only the work affected by a changed input. Hex 4.0 is in private beta, with broader availability planned over the coming weeks.[2]
