Mitsubishi Electric gives machines and humanoids a shared task plan

The research system assembles registered tasks and coordinates their execution, with commercialisation targeted for 2030.

Loading a workpiece, cleaning a machine and removing the finished part are jobs surrounding the cutting itself. Mitsubishi Electric’s 21 October research announcement places them in a shared plan for a humanoid robot and a computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool.[1]

The operator gives an instruction in ordinary language. An AI planner combines entries from a registered task list, allocates work between the two machines and manages their collaboration.[1]

The CNC and robot also exchange operational information in natural language. Mitsubishi Electric describes this as a way to reduce the dedicated communication functions and control sequences normally needed to connect each robot. The planning step decides the work; those exchanges coordinate its execution.[1]

The company announced a JIMTOF demonstration for the fair opening on 26 October. It is targeting commercialisation by 2030, with further development and demonstration experiments ahead.[1]
