Rehearse a difficult deadline conversation with Yoodli

An original practice brief gives the AI a manager’s role and gives you two workable alternatives. The exercise ends with a saved conversation and a specific sentence to improve.

Yoodli can take the other side of a spoken practice conversation, then save the recording and provide feedback. This walkthrough follows its documentation and uses an original fictional exercise; we have not run the session in Yoodli.[1]

The task is familiar: a manager wants a complete report on Friday, but the supporting figures will not arrive until Monday. Your job is to discover what the Friday deadline is for, offer a realistic choice and finish with a clear agreement. The useful moment to rehearse is the first objection after you explain the problem.

Set up a conversation with something to resolve

Create or sign into a Yoodli account. Its Starter plan includes five lifetime sessions; practices lasting more than 30 seconds count towards the allowance. Pro permits ten a week, while Advanced offers unlimited roleplays. Starter and Pro session data may be used to improve the platform, so use the fictional details below. Advanced excludes roleplay data from AI training by default.[2]

Open app.yoodli.ai/practice/conversation and choose “Personalize your conversation”. Allow microphone access; the camera is optional. Use this brief to describe the counterpart and situation, then select Start.[1]

Keep your own objective outside the brief: ask which decisions the meeting needs to make, explain the missing input, and offer a choice the manager can act on. Giving the AI the entire answer would remove the part you need to practise. The dates and deliverables here are exercise assumptions, not a forecast of what your actual work will take.

Try an opening such as: “What will the team need to decide at Friday’s meeting?” Listen to the reply before choosing your alternative. A preliminary briefing may be enough for an early discussion; a decision that depends on the final figures may need to move. The point is to make the dependency explicit in a conversation.

Find the sentence that changed the exchange

When finished, choose Stop and then View Analysis. That saves the practice and opens the feedback.[1]

Use the recording to answer three questions. Did you establish what Friday’s meeting required? Did you explain exactly which information was missing? Did the exchange end with an agreed deliverable and date? Write down the words you actually used at the point where the answer became clear—or remained muddled.

For example, “I’ll try to get something over” leaves both the content and timing uncertain. An illustrative replacement is: “I can send a two-page preliminary briefing on Friday, with the missing figures marked, and the checked report on Tuesday. Would that give the planning meeting what it needs?” These are suggested lines, not output observed from Yoodli.

If the AI cuts in prematurely, turn off Auto-respond in the gear menu and use Next response when ready. If it cannot hear you, check microphone permissions and the selected input’s volume meter.[1]

Run the same scenario again, changing that sentence. Save it through View Analysis. Beside the recordings, note the first wording, the revision and the agreement reached. Carry the useful question and the offer you can honour into the real conversation.[1]
