Replit opens Cloud Agents to more contributors in company codebases

Pro and Enterprise teams can propose changes to existing repositories, with engineers retaining review and release decisions.

Replit expanded Cloud Agents for existing repositories on 27 October, opening the workflow to Pro and Enterprise customers. Designers, product managers and support staff can describe changes in natural language and send proposed code to engineers. Its documentation describes repository-based development as early access, with availability varying by workspace.[1][2]

The company says agents test changes in a running app, then attach screenshots and video to a GitHub pull request or GitLab merge request. Feedback can trigger further edits and tests.[1]

The work starts in an isolated cloud development environment. Replit clones a repository using the access a user authorises, brings its coding instructions and skills into that environment, and prepares the app’s dependencies. The connection does not create additional repository permissions.[3]

Edits initially affect that development copy. When a contributor asks for a draft pull request, the agent creates a branch, commits and pushes the changes, then opens the request. Reviewers can inspect and request revisions through the existing repository workflow.[3]

An early-access memory feature also turns recurring review feedback into proposed team instructions. Engineers must approve those changes before they take effect.[1]

The team’s branch rules and required checks still govern merging. Deployment follows its existing release process, whether that runs automatically after a merge or through a separate release.[3]
