Stereolabs puts synchronised vision in ZED Box 2

The new robot computers combine camera inputs and onboard AI, with documented trade-offs between viewpoints and frame rate.

Stereolabs introduced ZED Box 2 and Box 2 Max on 27 October for robots that process several camera feeds onboard. Box 2 uses NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX; Max uses Jetson Thor and offers up to 128 GB of memory.[1]

Orders are open. The announced shipping schedule starts in October for Box 2 and at the end of November for Max.[1]

What eight camera inputs carry

Box 2 shares bandwidth across each connector. Its manual lists these ZED X, Mini and Nano stereo-camera configurations:[2]

Box 2 exposes camera triggers. Max has no external trigger connector and synchronises attached cameras internally. Across Max devices, its manual recommends clock alignment over Ethernet.[2][3]

Synchronised images give perception software different views of the same moment. This matters when the robot and nearby objects are moving while the software combines information from several cameras.[1]
