Submer and Aginode join up AI data-centre design

A regional agreement brings connectivity and power distribution into early planning. The crowded rear of an AI rack helps explain why.

Submer and Aginode signed an agreement on 22 October to plan AI data centres across the Middle East, Africa and Turkey. Submer supplies design and thermal expertise; Aginode brings physical connectivity and power distribution into the first design discussions.[1]

The companies say they are working with regional customers, including in Egypt. The release names no completed facility, capacity or project budget. Its concrete change is the proposed organisation of design work.[1]

Where the systems meet

One hardware example shows the constraint. NVIDIA’s DGX GB guide places cable management, coolant manifolds, cable cartridges and the power bus bar at the rack’s rear. Liquid cools the processors; networking and storage components still need fan-driven air. This illustrates the design problem, rather than a hardware commitment announced by the partners.[2]

NVIDIA’s 2024 Open Compute Project account describes rear rack extensions that protect both cable supports and manifold fittings. It also describes floating connections that help coolant couplings align when a tray slides into position. Mechanical geometry, electrical connections and fluid handling have to agree about where a component belongs.[3]

Imagine a design review in which the chosen cable route crosses the space needed to withdraw a component. Every individual product could satisfy its specification, yet the assembled system would be awkward to maintain. Moving that route on a drawing is a different job from moving it after racks, pipework and cable trays are installed. This is an illustrative coordination problem; the announcement reports no such fault at a customer site.

The agreement’s commercial proposition is an earlier conversation between specialists. Its value will appear in how their interfaces work in a delivered facility.[1]
