Waters is enrolling laboratories for an AI feature that handles peak integration in its Empower chromatography software. Announced on 28 October, the premium subscription tool is scheduled to enter early access in December 2026.[1]
Integration determines the area assigned to a peak in a chromatogram. Waters’ existing guidance illustrates the choices involved: a small peak overlapping a larger one can be separated using different techniques, producing different peak areas. Adjusting the integration can also combine two peaks into one.[2]
The new feature trains on each laboratory’s own data to remove noise peaks and edit baselines, with outputs for analysts to review. Models are version-controlled and remain unchanged until the laboratory retrains and approves a replacement.[1]
Waters reported 90 manual interventions under existing practice and four with the AI tool in its 400-chromatogram pilot. The study involved an unnamed pharmaceutical partner in 2025; Waters holds the underlying data. The company plans validated, compliant deployment for mid-2027.[1]
