Zocdoc opens appointment booking to AI agents, with patient consent

A new Instinct partnership connects an assistant to US provider calendars; developer documentation shows how a search becomes a managed appointment.

Zocdoc announced on 28 October that it is opening its healthcare booking infrastructure to AI agents. Instinct is the new named partner, using Zocdoc’s Model Context Protocol server to find providers, check insurance acceptance and book into their calendars.[1]

The invitation covers US appointments. Zocdoc says agents must register, identify themselves, obtain explicit patient consent before booking and protect patient and provider data. It offers several connection routes, including its MCP server and REST API.[1]

What turns a recommendation into a booking

Zocdoc’s published API guide describes a sequence of checks. A developer first works with a directory of bookable providers, then searches by criteria such as location and specialty. Availability depends on the provider’s location, the reason for the visit and whether the patient is new or returning.[2]

An available start time can then be used to create an appointment. The API returns an appointment identifier that supports confirmation, cancellation and rescheduling. That identifier gives subsequent actions a particular booking to refer to.[2]

Access is provisioned: the guide requires a developer account and token. Authentication documentation distinguishes application credentials from flows for user-authorised actions, with separate sandbox and production credentials. The launch expands the invitation to agent developers while those account and permission requirements still govern the connection.[2][3][1]
